Witness nature in action and uncover the mysterious processes of planet Earth when you visit the area surrounding an active volcano.
Rincón de La Vieja is a compact portion of a mountain range that is 600,000 years old and comprises nine volcanic chambers. During your 2-hour hike around this active Costa Rican volcano, you may see mud pots, boiling water pools, geysers, and mini volcanoes. Your expert guide will explain all the volcanic activity you are watching.
The natural wonders of this national park are not limited to those of geological importance. Rincón de la Vieja has multiple habitats, due to differences in altitude, precipitation, and the effects of volcanic eruptions. On the south side of the volcano, you will follow a natural trail through a transitional forest with lush vegetation. Animals that inhabit the park include peccaries; Central American agoutis; tayras; armadillos; anteaters; sloths; howler, white-faced, and spider monkeys; more than 300 species of birds; and hundreds of species of butterflies.
From May to November, this tour includes a visit to the impressive La Cangreja Waterfall. This seasonal 131-foot waterfall, whose name means “female crab,” has crystal-clear waters.
