“La Pampa Guanacasteca” is without a doubt one of the most important cultural areas in Costa Rica.
The Guanacaste Essence tour introduces you to the cultural heritage, people, and traditions of this beautiful region, which houses one of the world’s Blue Zones—where people are said to live much longer than average. You’ll gain an appreciation of customs that have endured in several nearby locales.
The first stop is an old Costa Rican hacienda, where you will learn how sugarcane is harvested using rudimentary methods. Enjoy fresh Costa Rican–style chorreado coffee, homemade tortillas, cheese, and other local recipes. On the road, you will see picturesque cultural expressions, such as the work of the areneros; these artisans extract sand from the river using carts and oxen. We will also pass by scenic cantaloupe and sugarcane crops.
In Guaitil, known as “Pottery Village,” almost everyone is involved in creating beautiful pieces of pottery using the techniques of the indigenous Chorotega tribe. You will see a demonstration and have the opportunity to buy an example of this craft, which holds the D.O. (Denominación de Origen) quality seal. For lunch, you will visit Santa Cruz, considered one of the most valuable towns in Costa Rica due to its rich folklore.
This half-day experience includes a private guide and transportation, drinks (water, soft drinks, and beer) and lunch. Minimum People Required: 2
